Mercer staged a rally but came up short in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team scored the final seven goals of the match but fell, 15-9, to Richmond in Southern Conference play at Robins Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The host Spiders (8-5, 5-1 SoCon) raced out to a 14-1 advantage by the nine-minute mark of the third quarter. Mercer (1-11, 1-5 SoCon) was led by a four-goal performance from Sean Goldsmith, but it was too little too late. Three Bears scored multiple goals in the contest.
Notables
» Sean Goldsmith and Michael Quinn led the Bears with four points each. Goldsmith recorded four goals while Quinn notched two goals and two assists.
» Ashton Wood tallied a match-best 18 ground balls and 22 face offs. His 18 ground balls were one shy of his own SoCon single-match record (19) that he set at Furman.
» Josh Tarver led the Bears with 12 saves off 46 shots. Jake Meyer saw action for 15 minutes, registering five saves.
