Mercer claimed six spots on the league’s all-conference teams
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Five Mercer softball players earned six spots on the All-Southern Conference teams, the league office announced Tuesday ahead of the SoCon Tournament.
Â
Sophomore Danielle Castleberry and senior Shaila Warren highlighted the selections, both being named to the first team. Castleberry was tabbed as the top second baseman in the conference after leading the league with a .373 batting average and 59 hits in her sophomore campaign. Warren was phenomenal during SoCon play, leading the team with a .383 batting average in the 17 conference games – the third-highest clip by any player in the league.
Â
Representing Mercer on the second team were outfielder Micayla Rood and pitcher Bailey Pattison. Rood, the defending SoCon Freshman of the Year, scored 45 times and swiped 16 bases in 18 attempts during the season – her 45 runs scored are tied for the fifth-most in program history. Pattison was sixth in the conference in earned run average (3.73) and fifth in opposing batting average (.270).
Â
Pattison doubled up on honors, also being selected to the All-Freshman Team after recording the second-best ERA by a freshman this season. Joining her on the team is catcher Tori Ash, who caught seven would-be base-stealers and allowed just three passed balls.
