
Bears Drop Second-Straight OT Contest

Dolphins score game-winner in the 94th minute
MACON, Ga. – For the second straight contest, Mercer men's soccer was defeated in overtime. On Tuesday night, the Bears forced overtime against JacksonÂÂville University as Ricardo Packer Jr. scored in the 88th minute, however, the Bears would fall 2-1 to the Dolphins at Betts Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless 81 minutes of the contest, both teams started finding the back of the night late in the second half. The first goal came in the 82nd minute of the game when Jacksonville's (3-1-1) Kai Bennett found Inti Antunez in the box. Antunez flicked a pass to Connar Lufkin, who scored for the first goal of the game.
Eight minutes later, Mercer (4-2-0) answered back when Kevin Kim sent a cross into the box that Ricardo Packer Jr. headed home for his first goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1 and forcing overtime. In overtime, after the Dolphins drew a foul and Jose Manzo took the free kick and went back post to score the game winning goal.

The Bears outshot the Dolphins 23 to 14 in the contest, but Jacksonville recorded the only two shots in the overtime period, including the game-winner.

The Bears return to action next Tuesday, Sept. 24 when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face USC Upstate. Kickoff is set of 7 p.m. from County University Soccer Stadium. The match against the Spartans will be aired on ESPN+.
