The Bears return to action for the first time since Sept. 17

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's soccer squad travels to Spartanburg, S.C. to face USC Upstate on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the County University Soccer Stadium. The Bears will be on the road for the next three of their four games.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
Mercer is 4-1-1 against USC Upstate all-time against the Spartans. In the last meeting against USC Upstate, the Bears came away with a 3-2 win over the Spartans at Betts Stadium. Before last season, the Bears and Spartans had not met since 2013.

NOTABLES

Trevor Martineau ranks second in the SoCon this season in points. He has 10 points on the season, three goals and four assists. Not only is he second in points, Martineau leads the SoCon in assists this season.
JR DeRose ranks 76 in the nation in the NCAA with 19 saves on the season. He is only allowing 0.99 goals per game.
The Bears lead the SoCon in goals-against average. Mercer is only allowing 0.99 goals per game this season.
The Bears had 23 shots against the Dolphins in its last contest. The 23 shots are the most in a single game for the Bears this season.
SoCon action starts on Tuesday, Oct. 15 when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face Wofford.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
The Spartans are 1-4-0 on the season and are coming off a 4-1 loss to Furman on Saturday night (Sept. 21). USC Upstate is led by Scott Halkett, who is in seventh season with the Spartans soccer and third season as head coach. USC Upstate has scored three goals this season and all by three scored by three different players. Its three goals have come in the last two games for the Spartans. USC Upstate is allowing 2.54 goals per game and have recorded 24 saves.
