Men's Tennis Travels to Oklahoma For First Matches of the Season

Bears open the season on Saturday
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis team opens its season this weekend in Tulsa, Okla. The Bears will play Oral Roberts on Jan. 11 at 3 p.m. ET before taking on Tulsa on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. ET. Â

Scouting the Golden Eagles
Oral Roberts match against the Bears will be the first of the season. The Golden Eagles were picked to finish tied for sixth in The Summit League this season with 11 points. Geronimo Espin Busleiman, a freshman, is a player to watch this weekend. He reached as high as No. 40 in the ITF Junior World Rankings. He has been ranked as high as 704 in singles and No. 721 in doubles in the ATP World Tennis rankings. Mark Milner who is serving in his eighth season at the helm leads the Golden Eagles.
Scouting the Golden Hurricane
Like the previous day, Tulsa's first match of the season will come when they take on the Bears on Sunday. Tulsa is coming off a historic 2019 fall season, which saw the Golden Hurricanes go 20-27 in single matches and 6-10 in doubles competition. Sophomore Kody Pearson is currently ranked 98th in the ITA Singles Rankings. He became the fourth Golden Hurricane to win the ITA Central Regional Singles Title this season. He advanced to the Consolation Semifinals in the ITA National Fall Championship. Head coach Vince Westbrook leads the Golden Hurricane.
NEXT UP
The men's team will travel to Orlando, Fla. to take on UCF on Friday, Jan. 17. The Bears and Knights will place at the USTA National Campus. The match is set to start at 5 p.m.
