MACON, Ga. – Mercer men's lacrosse will head to Chapel Hill to go head-to-head with the No. 10 North Carolina Tar Heels. The game is set for Saturday at noon on Dorrance Field.  Â

SERIES HISTORY
This is the fourth meeting between the Bears and the Tar Heels. North Carolina leads the all-time record 3-0. The last meeting was in 2019, and the Tar Heels earned a 20-9 victory.
ABOUT THE BEARS
Sophomore Sean Goldsmith scored six goals in the Bears 2020 season opener, tying Mercer's all-time single game record, which was previously set by Zach Ward on March 30, 2014 at Wagner. Mercer's 18-6 win over Florida Tech was the first season opener win for the Bears since their 17-6 defeat of Boston University in 2014. Freshman goalkeeper Colin Kelley registered his first collegiate win against Florida Tech, recording seven saves on 18 shots faced for a .636 save percentage. Mercer is ranked first among Division I schools in groundballs per game (45), and tied for first in caused turnovers per game (14) and man-down defense (1.00). Sean Goldsmith is tied for first in the national in goals per game with Mac O'Keefe (Penn St.) and Logan Wisnauskas (Maryland). Colin Kelley sits second in goals against average behind Caton Johnson (UNC).
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA
North Carolina enters the contest with a 1-0 record. The Tar Heels are coming off a 19-6 win over Colgate last Saturday. Junior attacker Chris Gray led the team in goals, recording all four in the first quarter. In 2019, the Tar Heels finished 8-7 overall and 1-3 in the ACC. North Carolina's season ended in the semifinals of the 2019 ACC Tournament with a 14-13 loss to No. 1 Virginia. Senior midfielder William Perry led the team in goals last season with 26. Sophomore goalie Caton Johnson recorded 81 saves in 2019 and already recorded nine saves against Colgate. He is ranked first in the country in save percentage, with .818. Head coach Joe Breschi enters his 12th season at the helm of the Tar Heel program. In his tenure at North Carolina, he has registered a 118-62 record. Overall, he has gone 210-125 record in 23 seasons.

Mercer will come home and host the Hampton Pirates on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 12 p.m. at Five Star Stadium. Â
