
Bears Fall to Tar Heels in First Road Contest

Mercer drops 6-14 against No. 10 North Carolina
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team fell 6-14 Saturday afternoon against the North Carolina Tar Heels.
The Bears jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with a goal from Sophomore Sean Goldsmith. The Tar Heels answered with four goals, two of which were unassisted. Nick Rockefeller would cut North Carolina's lead in half with a quick goal from Will McCarthy. Goldsmith would open the Bears scoring in the second quarter with an assist from Will McCarthy. North Carolina would lead Mercer at the half, 9-3.
Sean Goldsmith would register his third goal of the game 53 seconds into the third quarter with an assist from Jake Priester. The Bears next two goals would come from Nick Rockefeller, assisted by Michael Quinn, and then an unassisted goal from Michael Quinn to put Mercer within five, 6-11. North Carolina would score one more to end the third quarter. The Tar Heels were the only team to score in the final quarter, registering two goals to end the game 14-6.
NOTABLES
ØÂ Sean Goldsmith recorded is second hat trick, making it his ninth game in a row with a goal.
ØÂ Ashton Wood has brought his groundball total to 22 on the season, which leads the Southern Conference.
ØÂ Mercer leads the SoCon in goals per game with an average of 18.00 per game.
