Allie Jones earned her first mid-season award from the SoCon
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior Allie Jones of the Mercer softball team was named the SoCon Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Â
Jones earns Mercer's second recognition from the conference after Danielle Castleberry earned SoCon Player of the Month honors on March 4. This was her first career mid-season recognition from the SoCon.
Â
"Allie had a tremendous weekend against the best teams we have played all year," said Head Coach Stephanie DeFeo. "To perform at the level she played at this weekend was amazing!"
Â
Jones led the Bears in a multitude of offensive categories on the week, including: hits (7), runs (5), doubles (1), triples (1), RBI (4), total bases (10) and stolen bases (4). The Calhoun, Ga., native posted a pair of multi-hit games on the week, both against a Utah squad that ranked 41st nationally in ERA. She was a key component throughout the weekend for the Bears as three of her five runs came in the fifth inning or later, two of which that tied the game against Utah (7th inning) and No. 6 Oklahoma (5th inning) on Friday.
Jones currently leads the nation in stolen bases without being caught this season as she is a perfect 18-for-18 on the base paths.
The Bears are set to begin a five-game homestand on Wednesday as they welcome in-state rival Georgia Tech to Sikes Field for a 6 p.m. matchup.Â
