Micayla Rood is a member of the softball team
MACON, Ga. – It takes a special combination of academic excellence and athletic skill to be able to succeed as a student-athlete at Mercer University. Throughout the next few months, we will highlight these young men and women who have the privilege of calling themselves a Bear.
Â
Today, we highlight softball junior Micayla Rood.
Rood, a native of Buford, Ga., has donned a Mercer jersey for the last three seasons. During her junior campaign, which was cut short because of COVID-19, Rood was hitting .311 on the year (28-for-90), good enough for third on the team in both average and hits. In addition to starting every game for the Bears, she recorded her 100th career hit with a single through the left side in the bottom of the fifth against Tulsa on Feb. 8. Rood has been stellar since she first put on a Bears uniform, being named the SoCon Freshman of the Year in 2018 while earning First Team All-SoCon honors. She followed that up with collecting second team honors last season, including being named to the Southern Conference All-Tournament Team.
