MACON, Ga. – Throughout the month of April, Mercer University athletics will feature each of the seniors who wore the Black & Orange during the shortened spring 2020 season.
The NCAA has indicated that spring sports seniors could receive an extra season of eligibility and return, as the 2020 spring season would have been their final year of competition, all student-athletes representing Bears baseball, softball, men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, beach volleyball and track and field will receive their "Senior Day" this spring.

The senior day spotlight continues with softball's Stella Preston.

About Stella
Stella has been a member of the softball team for four years and has appeared in 78 games throughout her career, including 37 starts. Battling through numerous injuries, Preston pitched more than 300 innings in a Bears uniform, compiling a 3.12 ERA with 199 career strikeouts. She has 14 complete games to her record and is ranked third in Southern Conference history with 12 saves. As a freshman, she recorded nine saves to rank second in the nation and set a new program single-season record. Preston is a two-time All-SoCon Second Team selection while also being named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team in 2017.
Her work off the diamond is equally as impressive as Preston graduated with a BA in political science in two-and-a-half-years. Boasting an undergrad GPA of 3.946, she was named the Outstanding Senior in Political Science. She is currently pursuing her MBA with a 3.850 GPA and plans to attend Mercer's Law School next year. She earned Dean's List and President's List honors each semester and landed on the 2018 Academic All-SoCon Team.
Preston was recognized for her contributions to the softball program earlier this spring as one of 30 candidates for the Senior C.L.A.S.S. Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Â
Coach's Thoughts
"Stella is one of the hardest working pitchers I have ever coached," remarked head coach Stephanie DeFeo. "She was always reliable and competed hard every time she stepped into the circle."
