Abby Walsh was a four year member of the softball team
MACON, Ga. – Throughout the month of April, Mercer University athletics will feature each of the seniors who wore the Black & Orange during the shortened spring 2020 season.
The NCAA has indicated that spring sports seniors could receive an extra season of eligibility and return, as the 2020 spring season would have been their final year of competition, all student-athletes representing Bears baseball, softball, men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, beach volleyball and track and field will receive their "Senior Day" this spring.

The senior day spotlight continues with softball's Abby Walsh.

About Abby
Abby is a four year member of the softball team. She appeared in 158 games over her four years and had a .392 career on-base average. Walsh finished her career with 82 hits, including 13 doubles, five triples and 14 home runs. Her 78 career walks rank seventh in program history.

To start her senior season, Walsh recorded six hits in the first eight games and finished the 2020 campaign with 17 walks, the second most in the SoCon.

Walsh broke out during her junior season, setting career highs in batting average (.275), hits (38), runs scored (27), doubles (8), triples (3), home runs (5), RBI (32), total bases (67), slugging percentage (.486), walks (30), hit by pitches (10), on-base percentage (.429) and stolen bases (7).

Coach's Thoughts
"Abby was always ready to do what was needed for the team," remarked head coach Stephanie DeFeo. "She had one of the best approaches as a hitter and came up clutch for us when we needed someone on base or a big hit. Throughout her 4 years, Abby made a huge impact on our program."
