Dylan Gaither is a member of the men’s soccer team
MACON, Ga. – It takes a special combination of academic excellence and athletic skill to be able to succeed as a student-athlete at Mercer University. Throughout the next few months, we will highlight these young men and women who have the privilege of calling themselves a Bear.

Today, we highlight men's soccer freshman Dylan Gaither.
Â
Gaither, a native of Lilburn, Ga., made an immediate impact on the pitch for the Bears, being named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team. He started in 20 of Mercer's 21 games in his rookie campaign, playing a total of 1317 minutes. Gaither finished his first collegiate season with 13 points on five goals and three assists, including two postseason goals in the SoCon Tournament to help the Bears to their third title in the last four years.

Why did you choose Mercer?
I chose Mercer because they provide great education which will be beneficial to me after college, and also it is close to home so my family can come watch me play my games.

What is your favorite moment at Mercer?
My favorite moment at Mercer was winning the SoCon tournament. It was my first championship I have won here and I hope to win many more before I leave Mercer.

What is your favorite sporting event you have been a part of at Mercer?
My favorite sporting event I have been apart of at Mercer was the first football game.

Do you have any game day rituals?
My game day ritual is that I drink an energy drink before games.
Â
What are you working to get your degree in and what is your end goal?
I am working to get my degree in sports marketing. My end goal is to graduate with a business degree, but after college I hope to play professional soccer.
