Hall’s basketball career continued beyond Macon, Ga. and even the United States
MACON, Ga. – We all know about the great accomplishments that Mercer student-athletes have achieved during their time as a Bear, but what are they up to after they graduate? Today, we take a look inside former Mercer men's basketball player Langston Hall's life and his career after Mercer.
Hall's impact on the Mercer basketball program is difficult to define in one sentence. It's something that is understood by many – fans and players alike – as his No. 21 jersey hangs from the rafters of Hawkins Arena.
Hall played four years for the Bears and started over 100 games, averaging 14.7 points, 5.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game as a senior in 2013-14. He helped the Bears upset No. 3 seed Duke, 78-71, in the NCAA tournament and later received the Lou Henson Award, which is given annually to the nation's most outstanding mid-major basketball player.
In May of 2014, Hall walked across the stage at graduation and received his degree, but his playing days were not done.
After a stint with the Miami Heat in the NBA Summer League, Hall took his talents overseas and began his professional journey by signing his first contract in July 2014 with Giorgi Tesa Pistoia. His professional journey has lasted six years so far – with stops in Italy, Germany and Greece. In 2018, he was named a Greek League All-Star.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY FROM YOUR TIME WITH MERCER BASKETBALL?
"Beating FGCU in the conference championship our senior year was my favorite memory! They eliminated us from the [ASUN] tournament two straight years, and to watch them make that NCAA tournament run hurt. We thought it should have been us. So, to finally get over the last hurdle and beat them on the road to make the NCAA tournament was special."
FOR SOME BACKGROUND, WHAT WAS YOUR MAJOR AT MERCER?
"I got my degree in finance. Math has always come naturally to me in school, so it really came down to accounting and finance. I took both classes my sophomore year and enjoyed finance more."
HAVE YOU EARNED ANY ADDITIONAL DEGREES (MASTERS, PHD, CERTIFICATES) ETC. SINCE GRADUATING?
"Not yet."
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE SINCE GRADUATING? (LIFE, CAREER ETC.)
"I have been playing professional basketball in Europe the last 6 years. I've spent 18 months in Italy, six months in Germany and four years in Greece."
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS FOR THE COMING YEARS?
"I don't know exactly what I want to do after my basketball career is over but some of the options I'm thinking of are getting into coaching or something with my finance degree. Coaching is another way to stay involved in the game after not being able to play it anymore."
