Kaytlin Haney played on Mercer’s softball team from 2013-16
MACON, Ga. – We all know about the great accomplishments that Mercer student-athletes have achieved during their time as a Bear, but what are they up to after they graduate? Today, we take a look inside former Mercer softball player Kaytlin Haney and her career after Mercer.
Haney suited up for 176 games throughout her four-year career at Mercer, earning 146 starts. The Katy, Texas, native boasted a .279 average with 127 hits, including 12 doubles, four triples and nine home runs. Her first career long ball was a special one for Haney as she blasted a grand slam against SIUE on Feb. 17, 2013, to give the Bears a 7-5 lead in the fourth inning.
She put together an impressive sophomore campaign, setting career highs in average (.326), on-base percentage (.370), slugging percentage (.486), hits (59), doubles (6), home runs (7), runs scored (35) and RBI (55). Haney's 55 RBI in 2014 remain tied for third in the program's single season records.
Â
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY FROM YOUR TIME WITH MERCER SOFTBALL?
It's difficult to pick a favorite memory from my time with Mercer Softball. My first home run as a Bear was a grand slam. I was ejected from a conference game for no reason the first time we played on ASUN TV (it was overturned immediately, but my parents were still heartbroken they did not get to watch me play). In 2014, we were ranked 42nd in RPI and were snubbed of an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. But honestly, my favorite memory was every time I got to put on my uniform. The sense of pride I felt to represent Mercer, my hometown, my teammates, and myself is something I will never forget. I miss it every day.Â
Â
FOR SOME BACKGROUND, WHAT WAS YOUR MAJOR AT MERCER?
My major was Mechanical Engineering.
Â
HAVE YOU EARNED ANY ADDITIONAL DEGREES (MASTERS, PHD, CERTIFICATES) ETC. SINCE GRADUATING?
I earned my Masters of Science in Engineering in Engineering Technical Management from Mercer in December 2016. I completed both my BSE in Mechanical Engineering and my MSE in Engineering Technical Management in four-and-a-half-years and graduated with both degrees in December 2016.Â
 Â
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE SINCE GRADUATING? (LIFE, CAREER ETC.)
Since graduating, I moved back to my hometown of Katy, Texas, and I started working at CAM Integrated Solutions, a small midstream Oil and Gas company in Houston. I have been working as a Mechanical and Project Engineer for CAM for three years now. I also spent a year as the Assistant Coach for the 14U Katy Cruisers Gold.Â
Â
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS FOR THE COMING YEARS?
In the coming years, I aspire to earn my Professional Engineer (PE) license and my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in order to further my career. I've also considered pursuing a PhD in Engineering Management.Â
Â
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS?
In 10 years, I see myself getting married and starting a family, buying a house with some land, adopting a couple more dogs, and working as a Project Engineer or a Project Manager in the Oil and Gas Industry.
