Natalie Shiver played on Mercer’s softball team from 2013-16
MACON, Ga. – We all know about the great accomplishments that Mercer student-athletes have achieved during their time as a Bear, but what are they up to after they graduate? Today, we take a look inside former Mercer softball player Natalie Shiver and her career after Mercer.
Shiver was a four-year starter for the Bears from 2013 through 2016 as the team's primary catcher. She shined both on and off the diamond, earning Capital One Academic All-America honors as both a junior and senior. The Leesburg, Ga., native was recognized on the All-Southern Conference Second Team as a senior in 2016 after hitting .325 with seven home runs, 40 RBI and 23 walks. She ranked in Mercer's all-time top-10 in multiple categories upon graduation, including games started (4th), RBI (4th), home runs (5th), runs scored (6th) and doubles (7th).
One of her most memorable performances came in the 2015 Southern Conference semifinals against Furman when Shiver caught the first no-hitter in SoCon Tournament history from Kirsten Stevens.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY FROM YOUR TIME WITH MERCER SOFTBALL?
My favorite team memory was playing in two back to back conference championships, one in the ASun and the other in the SoCon. Something that I will never forget is my junior year I caught the first no-hitter in SoCon Tournament history in the semi-final game, and it was featured as a Top-10 play on ESPN. My favorite individual moment was hitting a walk-off homerun to beat Chattanooga, who was in first place in the conference my junior season, on our home field. Also, being selected as a two time Academic All-American was rewarding for all of the hard work that I put in on the field and in the classroom.
FOR SOME BACKGROUND, WHAT WAS YOUR MAJOR AT MERCER?
I double majored in Finance and Sports Business.
HAVE YOU EARNED ANY ADDITIONAL DEGREES (MASTERS, PHD, CERTIFICATES) ETC. SINCE GRADUATING?
No, I have not earned any additional degrees since graduating.
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE SINCE GRADUATING? (LIFE, CAREER ETC.)
Since graduating, I have worked as a Multi-Line Representative and Office Manager for Andy Thomas State Farm in Warner Robins, Georgia. At my job, I have many different roles including sales, management, and operations. I enjoy what I do and have the ability to help and interact with others. I've also been involved with coaching baseball as well as giving softball catching lessons. Several years ago, I coached a Little League All-Star team that made it to the state finals and got to play on the Southeast Regional Field. I have also worked as a color commentator on ESPN for some Mercer softball games.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS FOR THE COMING YEARS?
I would like to continue working in the insurance industry and keep growing as a person. I would also like to continue coaching as well as see the girls I give lessons to continue to develop and improve as players. I'd also like to do some more commentating for Mercer softball when their games are streamed.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS?
In ten years, I'd like to be well established in my career and helping others. I would like to be giving back to the community through coaching and other ways as well.
