Meghan Rud played on Mercer’s softball team from 2015-18
MACON, Ga. – We all know about the great accomplishments that Mercer student-athletes have achieved during their time as a Bear, but what are they up to after they graduate? Today, we take a look inside former Mercer softball player Meghan Rud and her career after Mercer.
Rud starred for the Bears on the diamond from 2015-18, starting in each of the team's 226 games over that span. The Cumming, Ga., native is the program's current leader in runs scored (169), walks (98) and stolen bases (119), while also ranking second in triples (11) and stolen base percentage (.908). Her 259 base hits are the third-most in program history, while her career average of .350 (259-for-739) is the fifth-best mark.
She garnered a plethora of accolades throughout her time as a Bear, including two All-Southern Conference First Team nods. Rud earned three preseason All-SoCon Team selections and was named the 2018 Preseason SoCon Co-Player of the Year. The everyday centerfielder for Mercer added three Academic All-Southern Conference Team honors.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY FROM YOUR TIME WITH MERCER SOFTBALL?
This is a hard one because I have so many awesome memories with my teammates, but one of favorite memories is during senior year singing "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" by Whitney Houston after every win!
Â
FOR SOME BACKGROUND, WHAT WAS YOUR MAJOR AT MERCER?
I majored in psychology and minored in photography.
Â
HAVE YOU EARNED ANY ADDITIONAL DEGREES (MASTERS, PHD, CERTIFICATES) ETC. SINCE GRADUATING?
The past 2 years I have been working on my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Mercer University at the Atlanta campus, and I am 1 year away from graduating.
 Â
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE SINCE GRADUATING? (LIFE, CAREER ETC.)
I have been doing a lot of school and studying since graduating, but I have also been helping coach some young softball players, exercising, winning wiffle ball championships and keeping up with/hanging out with family and friends.
Â
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS FOR THE COMING YEARS?
Over the next few years, I plan on graduating with my degree of Doctor of Physical Therapy and helping patients return to their prior level of function after an injury or problem. I would also like to return to school for residency to receive extra training in a specialty area, (either sports PT or manual therapy) in physical therapy to gain more knowledge in order to better help my future patients. I also would love to help coach a softball team to continue to give my softball knowledge to young girls who have a strong passion for the sport.
Â
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS?
I'm not sure where I will be in 10 years, but I plan on following God's plan for my life and allowing Him to take me where He wants me.
