Coursey was a four-year member of the Bears’ men’s basketball team.
MACON, Ga. – We all know about the great accomplishments that Mercer student-athletes have achieved during their time as a Bear, but what are they up to after they graduate? Today, we take a look inside the life of former Mercer men's basketball student-athlete Daniel Coursey and his career after Mercer.
Coursey spent four years at Mercer form 2010-14 and appeared in 126 games. After scoring just four points in 18 minutes as a freshman, Coursey played in all 38 games in 2011-12, averaging 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds on the Bears' CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) championship team.
After a slight drop in production as a junior, Coursey had his best statistical year as a senior with averages of 10.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest in 2013-14 as the Bears advanced to the NCAA Tournament thanks to a 68-60 win over Florida Gulf Coast in the ASUN Tournament. Mercer upset third-seeded Duke, 78-70, in front of 16,988 fans in the NCAA Tournament before falling to Tennessee.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY WITH THE MERCER BASKETBALL TEAM?
"My favorite memory of Mercer basketball has to be when we beat FGCU in Fort Myers for the ASUN Conference Championship in 2014. We always were back-and-forth with that team, and they beat us at home the previous year. It was a sweet win for sure!"
WHAT DID YOU EARN YOUR DEGREE IN?
"My major was biology with a minor in chemistry. The main reason why I chose biology is that I am terrible at math and not the best at writing either!"
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE SINCE GRADUATING?
"After graduating I played in NBA Summer League with the Boston Celtics and went on to get drafted in the First Round of the NBA D-League Draft by the Erie Bayhawks. I spent my first season as a professional basketball player in Erie, Pa. During the summer of 2015, I played in the summer league with the Orlando Magic and the D-League team. I returned back to the Bayhawks for my second season and was eventually traded to the Santa Cruz Warriors in California where I spent the rest of the season. After that I decided I wanted to try something different and was accepted to Mercer's PA Program in Atlanta where I still am today."
Â
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS?
"My short term goals include graduating PA school, and getting a job that I enjoy in my new career as a medical professional."
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS?
"I see myself starting a family and working in the medical field doing something I enjoy."
