Mercer returns to action on Saturday at Kennesaw State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mercer women's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by UAB on Wednesday afternoon at George Ward Park.

In doubles action the Bears dropped the point as they dropped No. 3 and No. 1 doubles. Lekha Varudandi and Alara Hollyfield came away with an exciting 7-6 (7) victory.

In singles action, the Bears dropped the first two matches, No. 3 and No. 2 singles, and trailed 3-0. Mercer responded by winning a three-set thriller in No. 1 singles. Maeva Roquebert won the first set 6-2 but dropped the second set 6-2 to Jana Hecking. In the final set, Roquebert won the match by winning 6-2.

Following Roqebert, Mary Courville got the second win for the Bears on the day. Courville won the first set 7-5 over Dominika Hrabalova in No. 4 singles. She followed with a 6-4 win in the second set.

Mercer needed to win the final two singles matches, No. 5 and No. 6, to win the match. However, the Bears were defeated in both and dropped the match 5-2 to UAB.
