MACON, Ga. – Eric Hayes' Mercer women's tennis squad evened its record at 2-2 overall with a clean sweep of the Georgia College Bobcats on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears opened doubles play by earning at convincing win at the No. 2 position as Alara Hollyfield and Lekha Varudandi topped Kim Yatribi and Jordan Bowie, 6-1. Lauren Rich and Ashley Popham clinched the doubles point with a 6-0 win at No. 3. In the No. 1 flight, Maeva Roquebert and Mary Courville earned a 6-2 win over Emilia Richter and Emma Fleming, 6-2.
Courville extended Mercer's lead to 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles while Roquebert defeated Richter just moments later at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3. The Bears needed just one victory to clinch the match, and Rich did the honors with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Bowie at No. 4.
The Orange & Black picked up the clean sweep with wins at No. 2, 5 and 6 singles to end the afternoon. Hollyfield was victorious at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3 while Popham shut out Emily Pope at No. 6. Varudandi ended the day with a win on court five, defeating Ashton Morrison, 6-2, 6-1.
Mercer improved to 2-2 with the win. Georgia College fell to 0-1.
