Mercer won its second straight match on Sunday

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team won its second straight match on Sunday with a 5-2 victory over Troy University at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

In doubles action the Bears dropped No. 3 but responded in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Mary Courville and Maeva Roquebert won 6-4 in No. 1 singles and the winner of the No. 2 singles would get the double point. Lekha Varudandi and Alara Hollyfield defeated Troy's team, 6-3, giving the Bears one point.

In singles action, the Bears and Trojans traded blows. Mercer's No. 2 player, Hollyfield won 6-1, 6-2, and Mary Courville followed winning 6-2, 6-2, in No. 2 doubles. Leading 3-0, the Trojans mounted a comeback as they won No. 5 and No 6 singles cutting the Bears lead down to one, 3-2.

Needing only one match to win, the Bears and Trojans No. 1 and No. 4 four singles players went to three sets. Troy won the first sets in both matches. However, both Bear players responded taking the second sets.

Roquebert would clinch the win for the Bears with a win in No. 1 singles over Metea Mihljevic. Roquebert won 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. A few minutes later, Lauren Rich clinched her three-set win with her comeback, after dropping set one, 6-0, Rich won the next two, 6-4, 6-3 giving the Bears a 5-2 win.
