Women’s Tennis Drops SoCon Opener at ETSU

Alara Hollyfield earned Mercer’s lone win in the match
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Mercer women's tennis team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday with a 6-1 setback against ETSU in its SoCon opener at the Dave Mullins Tennis Center.
In doubles action, ETSU picked up a pair of 6-0 wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to clinch the point. The Bears' top doubles team of Maeva Roquebert and Mary Courville put up a fight at No. 1 singles but fell, 6-3, to Alejandra Morales and Mayya Gorbunova.
In singles action, the Bucs took a 2-0 lead after winning the fourth flight. Alara Hollyfield responded for the Bears at the No. 2 singles position as she defeated Morales in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. ETSU went on to win the final four singles matches to earn the team victory.
