The Bears picked up their fifth win of the season

ATLANTA – The Mercer women's tennis team got back in the win column on Friday afternoon with a 4-3 win over Georgia State. The win over Georgia State is the Bears' first win over the Panthers.

In doubles action, Mercer jumped out to a quick lead. The Bears' newly formed doubles team of Lekha Varudandi and Kristin Yordanova wasted little time on the court, cruising to a 6-1 victory. Mercer's No. 1 doubles team of Maeva Roquebert and Mary Courville took the second match with a 6-4 victory. The Bears' No. 2 doubles team, Lauren Rich and Alara Hollyfield, were up 4-3 in their match, but it went unfinished.

The Bears' Lauren Rich extended the Orange & Black's lead to 2-0 after taking No. 4 singles. Rich defeated Alexia Alvarez, 6-2, 6-1. After dropping No. 1 singles, Mercer tallied its third point of the day with a win in No. 6 singles. Kristin Yordanova went three sets and defeated Denisa Gheorghe, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.

Needing one more win to clinch the match came in No. 3 singles. Mary Courville dropped the first set to Ellie Aldrich 7-5. Needing to win and force a third set, Courville took set two, 6-2. In the third set she continued to impress with a 6-3 victory, clinching the match for the Bears.
