Women’s Tennis Drops a Heartbreaker to Chattanooga

Bears fall to the Mocs, 4-3
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team hosted Chattanooga and were looking for their first Southern Conference victory of the season, but the Bears dropped a heartbreaker to the Chattanooga, 4-3.
In a highly contested doubles matches, the Bears took the early lead by taking No. 3 doubles. Lekha Varudandi and Kristin Yordanova won 7-5. However, the Bears dropped No. 1 doubles in a tiebreaker and No. 2 doubles to drop the doubles point.
The Bears tied the match at 1-1 as Yordanova took No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-1 over Lilly Holmes. The next match done was No. 3 singles. In a three-set affair, the Mocs Polina Goloputova took set one, 7-5. Mary Courville bounced back and won set two, 6-1. The Mocs Goloputova clinched No. 3 singles with a 6-1 victory in the third set.
The Mocs lead grew to 3-1 after a win in No. 5 singles and they clinched the match with a win in No. 2 singles.
Maeva Roquebert got the second point for Mercer with a three-set win in No. 1 singles. She won the first set 6-3 before dropping set two, 6-3. In the third set, she won 6-4 to win the No. 1 singles flight. The last win for Mercer came in No. 4 singles, which also went three-sets. Lauren Rich followed Roquebert and won set one before falling in set two. Rich won the third set 6-4 to win No. 4 singles.
