Wright's Stellar Day Leads Bears on Final Day at UCF

Wright broke her own program record in the 100-meter dash
ORLANDO, Fla. – Cherrish Wright had a solid showing on the final day of the Black & Gold Invite on the campus of the University of Central Florida on Saturday with a pair of medals and a school record in the 100-meter dash.
The Bears started the final day of competition with a silver medal in the 4x400-meter relay. Samaiya O'dneal, Wright, Ceylani Rembert and Lauryn Dancy finished the event in 47.38 seconds, second only to UCF (45.54 seconds). Mercer's second foursome of Hannah Cooper, Kennedi Weston-Shields, Carlandra Jones and Chidimma Uwaomah finished sixth after running the event in 50.20 seconds.
Isabella LeBlanc and Jerrica Hanson finished ninth and 10th win the 3000-meter run with times of 11:41.37 and 11:50.29.
In the Orange & Black's third event of the afternoon, the 100-meter hurdles, Wright finished ninth with a sub 15-second showing (14.94) for ninth in the program's record book.
Wright also competed in the 100-meter dash, earning a podium finish behind Jacksonville's Nicole Smith and Ciara Holback. She ran the event in 11.85 seconds, a new school record. Dancy finished 15th (12.14 seconds) while Rembert (22nd, 12.63 seconds), Uwaomah (26th, 12.85 seconds) and Cooper (32nd, 13.09 seconds).
Mercer placed three runners – Jones, Weston-Shields and O'dneal inside the top-15 in the 400-meter dash. Jones crossed the line in sixth with a time of 57.39 seconds to move into the top-five of the Orange & Black's record book, while Weston-Shields and O'dneal finished 12th and 13th with times of 1:00.72 and 1:00.76.
Tara Davis and Bella Rhone represented the Orange & Black in the 800-meter run. The duo finished back-to-back in 13th and 14th. Davis crossed the line in 2:32.50, and Rhone was only eight seconds behind.
The Bears finished the day with a sixth place showing in the 1600-meter relay. Wright, Weston-Shields, Davis, O'dneal, Rembert and Jones ran the race in 4:02.01.
