Bears to Compete at Spikes Classic

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears women's track and field team will compete in the Sunshine State for the second time when it takes part in Embry-Riddle's Spikes Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Friday's action will begin at 4 p.m., and Saturday will begin at 8:30 a.m.

After competing at the UCF Black & Gold Invite, Mercer was idle to end March. Cherrish Wright had arguably the most impressive performance of all athletes at the meet, breaking her own school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.85 seconds. Wright also came home second as part of the 4x400-relay team. Ashley McMahon was the lone Bear to win an event, taking the gold in the 2000-meter steeplechase with a time of 7:31.30. Marina Van Sickle finished second in the 5,000-meter run, clocking in at 18:27.75, a new personal best.
