Ashley McMahon Sets School Record at Spikes Classic

Ashley McMahon set the 10000-meter school record. Jerrica Hanson and Isabella LeBlanc set personal bests in the 5000-meter run.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Ashley McMahon set a school record in the 10000-meter run, and Jerrica Hanson and Isabella LeBlanc set personal bests in the 5000-meter run as the Bears began competition in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Friday. Â
McMahon's school record came in Mercer's last event of the night in the Embry Riddle Spikes Classic. She ran the 10000-meter event in 37:57.42, beating Jenna Gipperich's previous school record of 38:15.91 from the 2016 Emory Classic. Marina Van Sickle helped Mercer take two-of-three podium spots with a second-place effort. Her time of 38:43.85 ranks fourth in program history.
Hanson and LeBlanc represented the Orange & Black in the "Daytona" 5000-meter run. Both runners turned in top-15 performances with Hanson finishing just outside the top-10 in 11th. Hanson clocked in at 19:14.03, a new personal best, and LeBlanc came home 15th with a PR of 19:36.10.
Giulia Giorgi kicked off the Bears' time in Daytona, Fla., in the 1500-meter run and turning in an impressive top-five. Giorgi came home fifth with a  time of 5:00.15.
Day two of the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
