Donner Tabbed SoCon Pitcher of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sophomore Ashlyn Donner of the Mercer softball team was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.

Donner earned Mercer's first weekly honor from the conference this season. The New Ulm, Minn., native went 1-0 in two appearances against Western Carolina, allowing just one earned run over 12.0 innings of work.

She picked up her team-leading seventh win of the season on Sunday in the series finale, tossing a complete game shutout. In addition to posting her first solo shutout as a member of the Bears, Donner snapped the Catamounts' nine-game conference winning streak that dated back to their SoCon opener at Chattanooga on March 28.

Donner has been one of the hottest pitchers in the SoCon, going 5-1 in her last starts. She has gone the distance in each of those winning efforts.

The Bears will return to action this weekend when they head up to Johnson City, Tenn., for a three-game SoCon series against ETSU. Mercer will play two games against the Bucs on Saturday with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The series finale is schedule for Sunday at 1 p.m.
