
Bears Come From Behind to Beat Owls in Overtime

Three Bears had a multi-goal game
KENNESAW, Ga. – Maddi Koury scored the game winner in overtime to push the Bears past the Owls, 20-19, on Tuesday afternoon in Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Hailey Rhatigan was quick to get the Black and Orange on the board, scoring within the first minute of the game. Less than two minutes later, Shannon Urey found the back of the net with the help of Chloe Schaeffer. Â Kennesaw State would tie the game at two goals each. At the 23:25 mark, Eva Thorn got the ball past the goalie to take a one point lead. The Owls answered with three straight goals to take a 5-3 lead. Lily Morin closed the gap to one with help from Thorn. After a free position goal from Kennesaw State, Rhatigan and Thorn would score back-to-back to tie the game. After another Kennesaw State goal, sophomore Kathryn Vanderlinde would come in for the Bears. After a 5-0 scoring run for the Owls, Thorn would score her third goal of the game to cut the lead to four. With a little over the one minute in the first half, Hailey Rhatigan would score her third goal of the game to end the half 8-11. Â

Two more from the Owls would put them up by four. Chloe Schaeffer would bounce one by the Kennesaw State goalie for her first of the game. Less than three minutes later, Rhatigan would score her fifth goal of the game, the most in a game this season for the junior. Lily Morin was the next Bear to score to make this her seventh multi-goal game this season. With two quick goals from Maddi Koury and Hailey Rhatigan, the Bears were down by one with 12 minutes to go. Kennesaw State answered with two goals to grow the deficit by three. Eva Thorn would cut the deficit to two with an ankle-breaking shot with under eight minutes to go. At the 6:16 minute mark, Lily Morin scored her third of the game and put the Black and Orange within one. The Bears would take two of the next three to tie the game with 1:13 left. Kayla Soltys would score her first goal of the game to tie it up. The Bears and Owls would go into their first overtime of the season.
