SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
The Bears are seeking their first win over the Tigers in program history. Mercer and Auburn have met five times but not since 2013.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Mercer is coming off a 3-0 exhibition win over the ASUN's Jacksonville Dolphins. The Orange & Black jumped out to an early lead when Aliah Kitchens played a ball to Nicole Icen, and Icen found the eventual goal-scorer, Pace Stephenson. The offense was quiet until a foul in the box in the 41st minute sent Ally Fordham to the penalty spot. Fordham converted, and just minutes later, Kendall Cook, who burst onto the college soccer scene last spring, gave the Bears an insurance goal, making it 3-0. Both Jordyn Ebert and Lindsay Bell spent time in the net and teamed up to hold Jacksonville scoreless. Â
The Bears won eight contests in 2020-21 and were led by Ally Fordham and Kendall Cook offensively. Fordham led the team with nine goals, but it was Cook who led the squad with 20 points (7 goals, 6 assists). In goal, the always steady Ebert made 96 saves, including her 300th career stop.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Like the Bears, the Tigers of Auburn will also play their final exhibition contest on Saturday. Auburn is coming off a 2-0 loss to Memphis. Two late goals – one in the 86th minute and another in the 89th minute – lifted Memphis to the victory. Auburn managed seven shots and eight corner kicks in the loss. Keeper Maddie Prohaska made six saves and played the full match.
The Tigers went 10-5-3 in 2020-21 and were led by Mallory Mooney and Sydney Richards' five goals. Anna Haddock had a knack for finding the open player on the pitch, recording 10 total assists. In goal, Prohaska made 75 saves and allowed just 14 goals in over 1,500 minutes in the net.
