Late comeback not enough for Mercer
MACON, Ga. -- The Mercer men's soccer team knew a tough opponent meant a tough match, and they surely came to play against No. 22 Davidson. While the Bears were on the unfortunate side of a 2-1 scoreline, they held their own for the entire 90 minutes.
Following nearly half an hour of back-and-forth play, the visitors got on the board at the 28th minute-mark when Nicholas Cavallo fed Lucas Heath to make the first mark on the board, getting past MU keeper, Brant Zulauf.
The Wildcats doubled their lead in the 77th minute when Sai Tummala found via a cross to Vincent Bannage inside the 18-yard box for the 2-0 advantage. Four minutes later, Ousman Jabang answered with a goal for Mercer, but it was unfortunately the only one that go MU's way.
Jabang and Salam Agbaje fired shots within the six-yard box to tie the match in the waning minutes, but couldn't get either past Davidson's Giacomo Piccardo.
Jabang led the Bears' attack with four shots. Zulauf stopped three shots from the Davidson attackers.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, September 18 when they will host Furman for a 7 p.m. kick at Betts Stadium.
