Bears Sign Eight

MACON, Ga. – Mercer softball adds eight signees on National Signing Day 2022.Â
"We are beyond excited about our 2023 signees," said head coach Lindsay Fico. "It is both a huge class in number and ability. The addition of 3 strong arms in the circle and depth behind the plate is exactly what's needed once we graduate our current seniors."
THE SIGNEES:
Graceigh BoothÂ
The Quitman, GA native played catcher at Valwood Highschool. Booth was on varsity for five years and helped her team to All-Region four times and All-State five times. She was named Player of the Year for 2019 and2022, and Best Offensive Player in 2022. She plans to major in Health Sciences at Mercer.
Gabrielle EllisÂ
Ellis comes from Green Cove Springs, FL. She attended Clay High School and was a four-year varsity pitcher and outfielder. The 2021 varsity MVP led her team to 1st place in Santa Fe Tournament(2020), District Runner-Up(2021), and Regional Champions with a Final Four Appearance (2022). This season she was recognized as Defensive MVP and was part of the First Team All-County, First Team All-State, and Second Team for First Coast. Ellis is excited to study at Mercer to one day become a veterinarian.
Megan LoughrenÂ
The four-year varsity infielder comes from Vivian Gaither Highschool in Tampa, FL. Loughren was defensive MVP in 2021 and Offensive MVP in 2022. She holds a .527 batting average, with 6 homeruns and 23 RBIs. She led her team to a District Championship in 2021. Loughren hopes to major in sports marketing at Mercer in the fall.Â
Daniella Monaco
 Monaco is from Christmas, FL. She was a utility at Titusville HS with six varsity letters. She led her team to become the 2019 District Champs and was a three-time MVP. Monaco was in the top 20% from 2023 shortstops in overhand velocity and home-to-home speed in PGF Combine 2022. She plans to attend medical school one day and become a doctor for sports injuries. Â
Grace RoarkÂ
Roark comes from Frederick, MD. The pitcher played four years on varsity for Governor Thomas Johnson High School. Roark was part of the 2022 First Team All-Conference with a .669 ERA and 69 Ks in her 2022 season. She also had four home runs and a .340 BA to finish her season. In her free time, she is a part of Rho Kappa Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, Female Empowerment Club, and Science National Honor Society. She plans to study biology in the fall.Â
Taylor RogersÂ
Catcher, Taylor Rogers, comes from Lake Mary, Florida. She played four years on varsity under Jeannie Fisher at Lake Mary High School. Rogers was named to the SAC 1st team all Conference (2022), Academic All-State (2022), Scholar athlete of the year (2021), and Defensive player of the year (2021). She is a part of Beta Club, National Honors Society, Sports for the Kids, and Altamonte Fastpitch Academy. Rogers hopes to study psychology with a minor in sports management at Mercer.Â
Mariyah Sanchez
The shortstop is from Orange Park, Fl, and played varsity all four years at Oakleaf High School. Sanchez helped her team win districts the last 6 years with one state title. She was named to the all-county first team, nominated for softball player of the year, and student-athlete of the week this past year. She plans to study kinesiology in the fall.Â
Madison StarrÂ
Starr comes from Vidalia, GA as a four-year varsity pitcher at Vidalia Comprehensive High School. Starr led her team to multiple region championships (2019/2020/ 2021) and made it to the final 4 in the 2020 season. In her free time, she was part of varsity cheer, NHS, BETA, HOSA, FCCLA, Student Government, Medical Youth Advisory Board, and Greater Vidalia Youth Leadership. Starr intends to study the pre-PA track at Mercer.
"It'll be fun to have an abundance of talent, and the competition within the team will grow," said head coach Lindsay Fico. "Any time a coach has the benefit of increased competition within their squad, everyone gets better. We can't wait to get them on campus! Go Bears!"
