
Bears Fall in Two Games

Mercer defeated by Loyola Chicago and Kennesaw State
Tallahassee, FL. – The Mercer softball team drops two in games against Loyola Chicago and Kennesaw State.Â

Game One: Loyola 4, Mercer 2
The first run of the game would be from Loyola Chicago in the bottom of the second.Â
Â
Annie Potter ended the streak of no hits with a single to right center and would advance to second on a throw at the top of the fifth. Sophie Sumner would follow suit with a single to second base, advancing Potter to third but the Bears would be unable to score before the end of the inning. In the bottom of the fifth, the first two batters for the Ramblers would walk, with one scoring due to a fielder's choice to third. The final run came from an advance to third followed by a ground ball to second base. Loyola 4, Mercer 0.Â

A triple from Alyssa Woods followed by a single to shortstop by Madison Headley put the Bears on the board. Headley scored off a double from Diamond Williams breaking the Rambler lead in half.Â

There would be no additional scoring chances in the game, allowing the Ramblers to claim the victory.Â

Game Two: Kennesaw St.  11, Mercer 3
Kennesaw State made the board first with a two RBI by Taylor Cates, the only hit of the first inning for the Owls.Â

The Bears answered offensively with a single from Kenlie Harvey. Harvey would advance to second on the throw and eventually to third following a single to left field by Tori Ash. A fielder's choice to second base allowed Headley to reach and Harvey to score. Rebeca Laudino hit a ground ball to second base allowing Ash to score. An error by second base allowed Williams to reach and Woods to score before the end of the top of the second inning, giving the Bears the lead of one, 3-2.Â

The Owls tied the game in the bottom of the second with an opening home run but were unable to score the remainder of the inning. The next scoring chance for the Owls occurring in the bottom of the sixth inning with a double allowing Kiera Cooper and Katie Greep to score after being on second and third. A homerun from Ty Hardemanwith Isabella Galloway on third and Mary Greg Anderson on second would be a three RBI. The game would end with the run rule following a two RBI homerun by Cheyanne Sales in the bottom of the sixth.Â
