Mercer to take on ranked Dolphins in neutral bout
MACON, Ga. – Just four games into the 2022 slate, Mercer will face its first ranked opponent in one that's quite familiar: Jacksonville. The Bears and fifteenth-ranked Dolphins will meet in Savannah, Ga. for a neutral site contest tomorrow evening for the second consecutive year. While Mercer and Jacksonville are SoCon foes, this will not be counted as a conference game for either side. Â
The matchup will feature the SoCon's top two goalies in terms of goals against average: Mercer's Collin Kelley and Jacksonville's Luke Millican.

Mercer and Jacksonville have battled 11 times, with the Dolphins taking nine of the meetings, including the last five. This is the second consecutive year in which these will meet in Savannah – JU took the decision in OT with a 12-11 score. The Dolphins took the last one by a 16-6 score in which Sean Goldsmith tacked on a pair of goals to lead the Orange & Black at Five Star Stadium.
Scouting Mercer
Mercer comes into the clash with a 1-2 mark following a 15-5 setback to Navy in their last time out. Goldsmith's two goals led the Bears against the Midshipmen. Collin Kelley stopped 16 shots in all 60 minutes of work between the pipes. Additionally, Goldsmith's 11.33 shots per game paces the league. Ashton Wood – a preseason All-SoCon selection – leads the conference in ground balls per game (8.67) and faceoff percentage (.614).
Scouting Jacksonville
Fresh off an upset of then-No. 2 Duke, the Dolphins evened their record to 1-1 after dropping a decision to No. 16 Johns Hopkins in week one. Offensively, the Dolphins are led by Max Waldbaum, who's tallied 11 points on eight goals and three assists through the pair of games played. Between the pipes, Luke Millican has stopped 27 shots and has tallied a 1-1 record.
