Jacksonville's nine-goal 2nd suffocates Bears

SAVANNAH, Ga. – In a neutral, nonconference contest with 15^th-ranked Jacksonville, Mercer dropped a 21-12 decision in a chilly Savannah on Tuesday night.

Offensively, Sean Goldsmith and Daniel Shumake paced the Bears with three points apiece.

The Bears (1-3) and Dolphins (2-1) traded goals in the first quarter with Goldsmith, Parker Junod and Carl Klepper finding the back of the net before JU took a lead it would not relinquish. Following the Klepper score, Jacksonville used eight unanswered to ultimately pull away from Mercer.

The third quarter saw four goals by the Bears in a nine-minute stretch when Goldsmith, Shumake and Junod all sent it past the Dolphins' goal.

Jack Parolin, Tim Kroneberger and Shumake tallied the final three goals of the game to close the contest to its nine-goal difference.

Next up, the Bears will travel to Cleveland, Ohio to matchup with Cleveland State on Saturday, February 19.
