Bears Fall 4-3 to Wofford
MACON, Ga. - In the opener of conference play, Mercer fought until the end, but on the wrong end of a 4-3 score that went the distance. Despite dropping the doubles point, the Bears roared back to force a deciding seventh match to decide the winner.
After falling in doubles, the visiting Terriers looked as if they were going to take a sweep with a straight-set victory at Nos. 4 and 6. Samuel Barrow got the Bears on the board with a 7-6, 6-1 win at court No. 5 and David Georgadze followed at No. 2 with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 win to bring Mercer to down by just 1 at 3-2.
Tying the match at 3 points apiece, Lucas Wayenburg used a come-from-behind effort in a three-set win at 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. In the deciding match, Samuel Macleod couldn't finish strong enough in the third set, falling 6-7, 6-1, 3-6 at court No. 3.
Mercer will visit Jacksonville State on Tuesday in a nonconference tilt.
