Bears Finish Tournament with One Loss

Mercer defeated by Stetson in final game of home tournament
Macon, Ga. – The Bears fall to the Hatters in the final day of the Mercer Bears Classic, 8-6. Senior, Kenlie Harvey recorded second multi-homerun game of her career.Â
Mercer 6, Stetson 8
Back-to-back singles by Kenlie Harvey and Diamond Williams would put the Bears on base. A walk by Grace Prom followed by a hit from the pitcher on Annie Potter would score Harvey. Mercer 1, Stetson 0.Â
Kami Eppley led off for the Hatters with a single. Eppley advanced to second on a ground ball by Alyssa Gilman and scored on a single from Brianna Clary. Evette Morgan followed suit with a single of her own and the two of them would score off a homer from Marissa Baxter. Mercer 1, Stetson 4.Â
Lizzie Shubert opened the third with a homerun, giving the Hatters a four-point lead.
The Hatters extended their lead in the fourth with back-to-back singles scoring Clary, who reached first on a fielder's choice to second earlier in the inning.Â
A double from Shubert, followed by a ground ball advancement, a walk, and a single, scored Shubert in the top of the fifth. Mercer 1, Stetson 7.Â
In the bottom of the fifth, Harvey homered; her first of the season. Williams singled, Morgan Hall reached on an error, and Potter single to right center; allowing Williams to score. Mercer 3, Stetson 7.Â
Sophie Sumner led off the sixth with a single but would be out at second on a fielder's choice. Alyssa Woods would be safe at first. Woods stole second and Macnab walked. Harvey recorded her second homerun of the game, bringing the score within one. Williams and Kylie Helm both walked, but the Bears were unable to take the lead. Mercer 6, Stetson 7.Â
Shubert reached first after being hit by the pitcher. Danielle Diaz singled and advanced to second on the fielder's choice to the short stop; Eppley reached on the same play. Diaz eventually stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Mercer 6, Stetson 8.Â
The Bears were unable to respond in the bottom of the seventh.Â
Overall, the Bears improved to 6-17 on the season, 3-5 at home.Â

The Bears remain at home and will face Georgia Southern in a Wednesday night double-header.
