Bears dropped by Chattanooga, 5-2

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer Bears fell short this afternoon to the visiting Chattanooga Mocs by a 5-2 line at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center.

The Mocs took the doubles point with the decider on Court 2, a 6-4 winner for the early momentum. David Georgadze and Lucas Wayenburg took a 6-4 win at Court No. 1.

Chattanooga straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 3 to put Mercer on the brink with a 3-0 lead. Andrew Branicki took a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 to keep the Bears alive as well as on the board, Samuel Barrow then followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win on Court 5 to bring Mercer to within one of the Mocs.

Wins by Chattanooga at Nos. 4 and 2 clinched the win, but Macleod and Georgadze did not go down without a fight - both forcing third sets in an attempt to stay in the match.

The Bears will welcome a pair of SoCon foes this weekend to Macon - The Citadel and Furman - for Saturday and Sunday matches. First serve with the Bulldogs is set for 11 a.m., while it will be 10 a.m. against the Paladins.
