Mercer Defeats Chattanooga

Chattanooga, Tenn. – Mercer came back to defeat Chattanooga after trailing by two. The Bears defeated the Mocs 4-3, winning their final conference series of the regular season.

Reagan Armour scored for the Mocs in the bottom of the first on a single from Acelynn Sellers. Armour reached base after doubling during her at bat.

In the bottom of the second, the Mocs extended their lead. Olivia Lipari led with a double and scored on a ground ball from Gracey Kruse; advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Liz Rodebaugh.

Madison Headley would be the first to record a hit in the top of the third. Rebeca Laudino followed with a single of her own. Despite their hits, the Bears still trailed by one going into the bottom of the inning.

In the top of the fourth, Diamond Williams hit a single to center field.

In the top of the fifth, Tori Hedgecock led with a single. Elisa Rosado entered as a pinch runner and stole second. Another single from Headley scored Rosado, bringing the game within one. A single from Laudino advanced Headley to second. A hit by pitch allowed Kylie Helm to reach first. Annie Potter singled up the middle to score Headley and Laudino. Mercer 3, UTC 2.

The Mocs tied in the bottom of the fifth. Kruse led with a double and scored after Emily Coltharp singled.

The Bears regained their lead in the top of the seventh. Headley reached on a fielding error, Potter was hit by pitch, and Williams walked to load the bases. Sophie Sumner entered to pinch hit for Grace Prom and earned a walk, scoring Headley.

Hannah Pitts was able to retire the Mocs in order in the bottom of the inning, allowing the Bears to win their second series.

The Bears will travel to Florida for games against both Florida and Florida Golf Coast in their final weekend of competition before conference.
