Bears And Roos Battle to Draw
9/16/2022 9:41:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Quick Strike Back Drew KC Even
HOW IT HAPPENED
Each team had some early quality scoring chances. At the eighth minute mark, Kansas City's Jack Dean let a right footed rocket go from the top of the 18 box that Bears' goalkeeper Trevor McMullen dove to his right, and smothered as it was headed toward the bottom corner of the net. Later in the half, the Bears Kadeem Agard slid a pass right across the top of the Roos' 6-yard box, past goalkeeper Cooper Clark and Michael Ille just failed to get his foot on it, as he slid toward the ball, in an effort to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. That near miss kept the game scoreless. Then with just over three minutes left in the half, Mercer's Liam Coxhead beat Clark cleanly but his shot ricocheted off the left goal post and wide. That kept the game scoreless heading into the second half.
The 62nd minute was most eventful. Dylan Gaither broke the tie to put the Bears on top taking a feed from freshman Tommy Redd and used his left foot to fire home his third goal of the season for a 1-0 Mercer lead. It was short lived. Just 57 seconds later, KC's Yahel Anderson took advantage of a failed Mercer clearing attempt and tucked his first goal of the season inside the left post for the 1-1 tie.
NOTABLES
The Bears will play their third game of a seven-game home stand, hosting Alabama-Birmingham on Tuesday Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. Kansas City visits Creighton on Tuesday.
