SCOUTING ETSU
ETSU truly saw a new season begin at the start of conference play. The Buccaneers finished non-conference play 4-9 while suffering a five-game losing streak. ETSU snapped this run with a conference-opening win over Wofford on the road. Since then, the Bucs claimed victories over VMI and The Citadel while losing to Western Carolina and Furman. ETSU is currently 7-11 overall and 3-2 in the SoCon, landing the Bucs in sixth-place in the conference.
Jordan King had a thundering performance for the Bucs on Wednesday night, scoring 42 points against The Citadel. This was just the fourth time that King led the team in scoring this season. He now averages 14.2 PPG while Jalen Haynes and Deanthony Tipler average 12.4 PPG and 12.3 PPG, respectively. Jaden Seymour leads the team in rebounds, averaging 7.6 per game. Seymour, Haynes, and Josh Taylor rank second, third, and fourth, respectively, in the conference for offensive rebounds.
RECENT ACTION
The Bears dropped to 0-5 in conference play after falling to Furman, 84-66, on Wednesday night at Hawkins Arena. The Paladins' exceptional shooting accuracy was too much to overcome despite an improved second half performance by Mercer.
Shannon Grant led the Bears in scoring for the first time this season with 16 points in just his second start of the year. Freshman Jah Quinones scored in double figures for the third time this season (12 PTS) and finished two rebounds shy of a double-double.
Mercer is still looking for a win in the Southern Conference this season after starting 0-5 for the first time as a member of the SoCon.
