
Bears Return Home Against ETSU

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's basketball program will play its first home game in two weeks against ETSU on Wednesday, January 25 at 7 p.m. at Hawkins Arena.
Head coach Greg Gary and his coaching staff are proudly participating in the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer - Suits And Sneakers Week to raise awareness about the fight against cancer and inspire hope. Mercer is also Lacing Up 4 Pediatric Cancer to support the Go4theGoal Foundation to help kids battling cancer.
Their efforts, along with Coaches vs. Cancer supporters nationwide, will help the American Cancer Society attack cancer from every angle and support millions of cancer patients in the U.S. today.

This is the second meeting between the two programs this season as Mercer beat ETSU, 68-55, in Johnson City at the beginning of the Bears' three-game road stretch. Mercer improved to 4-3 against ETSU during Gary's tenure with the Bears.

SCOUTING ETSU
ETSU is currently 8-13 overall and 4-4 in the SoCon. All four conference wins have come on the road for the Buccaneers while losing all four at home. Most recently, ETSU downed Chattanooga, 78-62, as the Mocs were without Preseason Player of the Year, Jake Stephens.
The Bucs have been without two of its top five leading scorers in DeAnthony Tipler and Josh Taylor. ETSU's leading scorer, Jordan King, notched 29 points in a full 40-minute performance against Chattanooga. Jalen Haynes also contributed 23 points and 13 rebounds to the effort.Â
RECENT ACTION
Mercer earned two conference wins during its three-game road stretch but closed out the trip with a close defeat to UNCG, 59-48. It was another defensive battle, but the Spartans withstood a second half push from the Bears to win and remain in second in the SoCon.
The Bears held four of UNCG's starters to five points or less, but Mercer shot 41% from the field while draining only one three pointer and struggled from the free throw line. Jalyn McCreary (11 PTS) and Shannon Grant (10 PTS) led the team in scoring while Jah Quinones recorded a new career-best 11 rebounds.
