Bears Come Up Short in 2-1 Defeat At Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Mercer women's soccer team fell a goal short on the road to Furman in a 2-1 loss in Greenville, South Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Maria Karipidis scored the lone goal for the Bears on the afternoon. He goal came on a penalty kick in the 88th minute after fellow freshman Larkin Thomason was fouled in the box. It was Karipidis' second career goal.
Despite a strong showing in the first half by Mercer in which it outshot Furman 9-2, the score remained 0-0 at half. Furman scored on a penalty kick itself in the 58th minute and got a second goal in the 77th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
The Bears kept pushing after falling behind 2-0, with Jada Moorman and Karipidis each hitting the post and Furman goalie, Addison Corn came up with some strong saves to help the Paladins defeat the Bears, 2-1.
Mercer closes out the regular season next Sunday, October 22 at The Citadel. Kickoff is schedule for 2 p.m.
