SPARTANBURG, SC. – Jay Spivey carded a team's best 73 to settle into a share of 34th place on the individual leaderboard and lead the Mercer men's golf team to a 17^th-place standing after opening-day action at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate.

The Bears posted a combined 306 (+18) in Sundays action at Daniel Island Club in South Carolina, but Middle Tennessee State (-5) sits alone in first place. Behind the Blue Raiders is Coastal Carolina (-4) and behind them is VCU and South Carolina tied at 3-under-par

Jonathan Parker turned in a 2-over-par 74 and sits in a tie for 45^th place after the first round, while Gustav Sjoberg tallied a 77(+5) to claim a share of 68^th place. Charlie Fischer in his first collegiate career shot a 82 (+10) and currently sits tied for 90^th place. Connor Holcroft tallied a 84(+12) and sits in 95^th place.

The Bears continue the Daniel Island Intercollegiate tomorrow morning.
