The Mercer Men’s Lacrosse dropped its first game of the season to Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Mercer Men's Lacrosse dropped its first game of the season to Bucknell, 20-6, on Saturday morning at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa. The Bears drop to 0-1 overall. Bucknell improves to 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

It started slow offensively and defensively for the Bears. The Bison took advantage of the slow play by the Bears with three early goals. Following the third goal, Ashton Wood won a face-off, picked up the groundball, and ran half the length of the field to score the first goal of the season for the Bears. However, the Bison would not allow the momentum to shift, and they continued to find the back of the net three more times in the first quarter. The Bison found the back of the net five times before the Bears could fire back with a goal of their own. However, the Bison would score two more goals before heading into the half, making the score 13-2.

The Bears opened the scoring with a first-career goal from Jack Sullivan off an assist from Connor Panebianco. The Bears followed their first goal of the quarter with another, this time from Parker Junod off an assist from Michael Frederick. The Bison continued to score with two more goals before the Bears answered with a first-career long pole goal from Connor Purcell off an assist from Quinn Kelley. The score heading into the fourth was 16-5.

The Bison scored wo more goals to open the fourth quarter. The Bears answered one last time with a first career goal from Connor Panebianco, off an assist from Parker Junod. The Bison went on to score two more goals making the final score 20-6.

UP NEXT: Mercer remains on the road for another week with a match-up against UNC on February 10.
