Bears First Day At The Tennessee Invitational

Knoxville, TN – The Mercer Bears went 0-2 today against No. 22 Baylor and No. 5 Tennessee.
How It Happened
GAME ONE
    Rebeca Laudino recorded the game's first hit but was caught advancing after Avery Barton singled. Barton was caught in a double play to end the top with no runners on, 0-0. Mercer was able to hold one on to finish out the first. Bailey Ledvina started the second with an infield single. She was advanced by a SAC bunt from Alyssa Woods and was left on second. Baylor recorded on run on two hits to take the lead at the bottom of the second, 1-0.
    Baylor's defense stayed strong serving a three up three down and recorded two runs in the bottom of the third to further their lead of 3-0. Tori Hedgecock was walked and advanced due to a single from Ledvina. Madi Wicker came into a pinch run for Hedgecock but was caught at home after Woods singled. The bases stayed juiced. Baylor finished the fourth with another run and the lead, 4-0. A 1 2 3 for the Bears in the top of the fifth and held one on base to finish the inning.
    Barton singled to start off the sixth. She was advanced by Hedgecock and a wild pitch to get into scoring position. Baylor held her there and would score another in the bottom of the sixth to further their lead, 5-0. Woods walked to start the top of the seventh. Grace Prom advanced her with a double to left center. Kassidy Moore pinch stepped in to pinch hit. Avery Barton singled to bring Prom and Woods home. Baylor held two on base to take the game, 5-2.Â
GAME TWO
   The Lady Vols served a three up three down and recorded one run on no hits to start the game leading 1-0. Bailey Ledvina walked to start the second. She was advanced to second when Grace Prom walked on a full count. Woods reached on a fielder's choice, with Ledvina caught at third. Both Prom and Woods were left stranded. In the bottom of the second Tennessee got six runs on three hits to further their lead to 7-0.
   Tennessee sat the Bears down in order in the third and fourth. They record four runs in the third but were held in the fourth 11-0. Lillian Wilkerson reached on an error in the top of the fifth. It was not enough to get the Bears going and they dropped the game in five innings 11-0.

    The Bears will continue their second day in Knoxville, TN at Tennessee Invitational tomorrow, April 7. They will have a rematch with both No. 22 Baylor (10 a.m.) and No. 5 Tennessee University (3:00 p.m.).Â
