
Women’s Tennis Celebrates Senior Day Against Alabama State

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis program will honor senior Mary Weston Courville before the match on Sunday, April 9 at 10 a.m. against Alabama State at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
Courville concludes a very successful Mercer career this spring while leading the team in singles wins this season playing on court two. She finished her junior season with 10 singles wins and nine doubles wins, both leading the team. The Columbus, Georgia, native played almost all matches on court one for singles and doubles as a junior. During her sophomore season, Courville also led the team in singles and doubles wins with 11 and nine, respectively. Before the 2020 season was cut short, Courville recorded four singles wins and six doubles wins as a freshman. Courville was named an ITA Scholar Athlete in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
RECENT ACTIONÂ
The Bears split two conference matches last week, defeating Wofford 5-2 and falling to ETSU 6-1.Â
Courville and Teodora Ristic were the only doubles team to go 2-0 in matches, defeating Wofford 6-2 and ESTU 6-3. Courville was also the only singles player to defeat both opponents after beating Wofford 6-4, 6-4 and ETSU 7-5, 1-6, 6-1. Ristic, Camilla Ciaccia, and Marina de Diego Quinones each earned singles wins against Wofford while all three doubles pairs were victorious.
SCOUTING ALABAMA STATE
The Hornets are coming off a 4-0 win over Southern University and 4-0 win against Alcorn State.Â
Francesca Duca and Lizaveta Demchenko were paired up on court one for doubles and are 4-1, 3-1 together this season. They defeated Southern 6-1 and Alcorn 6-2. The second doubles slot was occupied by Urska Velec and Bea Acena who are 4-3, 4-1 together after defeating Southern 6-0 and Alcorn 6-3. Timothée Legaaud and Sahra Bouchaala competed at the third doubles slot and are 4-5, 3-3 together this season.
Lizaveta Demchenko is 3-5, 3-1 this season on court one for singles, and neither one of her matches were finished last week. Bouchaala has played at the second singles slot all season and is 9-3, 6-1 after defeating Alcorn 6-1, 6-1 and going unfinished against SU. Velec is 3-4, 3-2 this season and has been competing at the third doubles slot while Duca is 4-4, 4-0 at the third and fourth slot. Acena has played at both the fourth and fifth slots and is 8-4, 7-0 this season with Legaud drifting between the fifth and sixth slots, going 5-5, 4-1 this season.      Â
