The "Comeback Bears" take Third at SoCon Softball Championship

CHATTANOOGA, TN. – The Bear's would open the day up with a 4-3 comeback victory over No.7 ETSU at 12:30 pm on Friday, May 12. The bears would then go onto play No. 2 Samford in the SoCon Championship Semifinals. The Bears would fall to Samford in a 1-2 game.
How It Happened
   No. 7 ETSU – 12:30 PM
The Bears would begin the game on defense. The Bears and ETSU would hold each other scoreless in the first inning. ETSU would then score three runs in the second to take 3-0 lead over the bears. The Bears would answer in the bottom of the second with a walk on Parris Wiggs. This walk would occur with the bases loaded and would send Sophie Sumner home bringing the Bears within one. The Score was 3-1 heading into the third.

Mercer and ETSU would be held with zero runs until the bottom of the fifth inning. Alyssa Woods would be out on a fielder's choice which advanced Wiggs to second, Wiggs would then take third and home off error made by ETSU. This error would also send Madi Wicker home, bring the game leveled a five-a-piece. The Bears would have two runners in scoring position. Kylie Helm would foul out but send Woods Home. The Bears would lead 4-3 at the end of the fifth. Mercer's defense was able to close the game. The Bears would move on to play No. 2 Seeded Samford.

  No. 2 Samford – 3:30 PM
The Bears would begin the game at the plate first. The Bears would leave Bailey Ledvina on first after she singled to right center field. Samford would be held scoreless in the bottom of the first. Samford would hold Mercer scoreless at the top the second. Samford earned a run in the bottom of the second. The Bears would answer in the fourth, when Sumner would single down the right side which brought Tori HedgeCock home and advanced Kassidy Moore to third. The Bears however could not bring her home. Samford would record a run the sixth inning and would hold the Bears scoreless in the seventh to take a 1-2.
