MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Ryan Danehy announced the hiring of Sean Goldsmith as a new assistant coach for the Bears.
Before joining the coaching staff, Goldsmith spent his final collegiate year playing attack at the University of North Carolina. Prior to joining the Tar Heels, Goldsmith spent four years playing attack for the Bears. While at Mercer, Sean started 40 out of 41 games and finished his career at Mercer with 111 goals and 44 assists. During his senior campaign with the Bears, Sean led the Bears' offense with 51 points (35 goals, 16 assists) and would be named to the All-SoCon Second team. While at UNC, Sean would end the season third on the team with 33 points (24 goals, 9 assists). Goldsmith had eight multi-goal games.
Following his graduate year at UNC, Sean would join England Lacrosse and travel to San Diego, California for the World Lacrosse Men's World Championship. England would be in the best pool group and would face the worlds best from Canada, Australia, The United States, and the Haudenosaunee. During the World Championship, Goldsmith would produce 12 points (9 goals, 3 assist) in seven games.
Prior to joining Mercer, UNC, and the England's National Team, Goldsmith was a four-year attackman at Northwest Guilford High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. During his career at Northwest Guilford, Sean would be named a three-time All-American, three-time First-Team All-State, two-time Under Armour underclass All-American, and is the all-time points leader at Northwest Guildford High School.
Coach Ryan Danehy had the following comment about the hiring of Sean Goldsmith:
"Sean will go down as one of the best players in program history," said Danehy. "To have him come back and start his coaching journey at the very place that made him so successful is an incredible opportunity. Not only are we excited about him coming on board to the staff, but I also know how excited and eager the men are to learn from him too."
