Mercer remains undefeated through eight games
ASHEVILLE, NC – In a back-and-forth game, the Mercer women's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw at UNC Asheville Sunday afternoon.
The Bears led twice in the game, but the Bulldogs were able to find a goal to tie the game after each of Mercer's goals.
The opening goal of the game came from Sydney Farr who scored on a beautiful ball from Chandler Lewis-Jenkins off a free kick in the 26th minute. Farr redirected the ball in the air from Lewis-Jenkins past the Bulldogs goalie for her second goal of the season.
UNC Asheville responded with a goal in the 37th minute as Anna Doane shot a loose ball in the box of a corner kick past Mercer's Lindsay Bell to tie the game at one.
The Bears got off to a quick start in the second half looking to retake the lead. In the 53rd minute, freshman Anna Bachman took a shot from about 30-yards out that floated over the Bulldogs goalie but hit the crossbar.
The Bears kept on the attack as three minutes later, Chandler Lewis-Jenkins made a run down the left side to the end line and sent a cross that the UNC Asheville goalie mishandled and Jada Moorman was there to shoot the loose ball into the open goal for her fifth goal of the season.
UNC Asheville again found the tying goal in the 60th minute.
Each team had 15 shots with UNC Asheville putting seven on goal to Mercer's five. Lewis-Jenkins had an assist on both of Mercer's goals. Bell made five saves in goal for the Bears.
Mercer will play its third consecutive road game on Thursday as they travel back up to North Carolina to take on Gardner-Webb.
