BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mercer men's tennis team raked in four singles wins in its Sunday morning matchup with defending SoCon champion Chattanooga, and then took two of three doubles matchups with UAB in the afternoon session, to close out the Samford Invitational on a positive note inside the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion.
Seniors Andrew Branicki and Samuel MacLeod, as well as newcomer Victor Putter, all registered a perfect day on the court with a singles win, as well as a share of a doubles victory. Branicki won a straight-sets (6-1, 7-5) No. 4 singles matchup with Chattanooga's Kristof Kincses, and then teamed up with MacLeod for a 6-4 victory in the doubles tilt with the Blazers. MacLeod also won his No. 2 singles contest, 6-1 and 6-2, over Ryan Mudre.
Putter toughed out a three-set (6-7, 7-6, 7-4) win at No. 6 singles over UTC's Walker Valentine on Sunday morning, and then teamed up with senior Samuel Barrow for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
Frenchman Marceau Fouilhoux also won his singles matchup on Sunday morning via a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Chattanooga's Peyton Gatti.
The Orange & Black will take a weekend off from competition before resuming the fall portion of its 2023-24 schedule, Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens. The three-day event will take place at Georgia's Magill Tennis Complex.
